Ward Council Message 3/7/2021

A few weeks ago, the day after our big snow, Lizzie called me while I was at work and told me that our bathroom ceiling was leaking and she put a bucket under it. I asked if her dad knew, to which she replied “I thought you guys knew.” I told her to tell her dad. My first reaction to this was panic, of course, I don’t know anything about roofs. By the time I got home, Spencer had opened up a hole in the ceiling to get all the water and wet insulation out. Spencer was calm and already thought he knew what was causing the leak, which helped me to calm down and react much better on the outside than what I was feeling inside. Spencer began calling roofing companies, I started praying. Over the next day we discovered more water in other places, and after talking to a few companies Spencer went to get supplies and temporarily patched the roof to prevent any more leaking until the weather gets better and we can get it fixed.

After emptying our bathroom and drying out, the spirit turned my mind to gratitude. Instead of focusing on all the negative about this situation I started thinking about all the blessings. I am so grateful for a husband that has the ability to take care of our home. I’m grateful for our house. I’m grateful that Lizzie and Spencer were home to discover the leak before it could cause more damage. I’m grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who is aware of us and our needs. Gratitude is a choice; it changes our hearts and leads us to happiness, even in the middle of our trials.
